Up to 120 new construction jobs will be coming to Grangemouth, with the announcement that engineering firm AMEC has secured a £10million contract to provide project services to BP at the Kinneil Enhanced Gas Separation (EGS) project.

Falkirk East MSP Angus MacDonald has welcomed the news, and the jobs will be created in the local area at the peak of the contract, which will start immediately and is due to complete by mid-2013.

The project is to modify and extend BP's existing Kinneil Crude Oil Stabilisation Terminal.

Kinneil, an oil stabilisation and gas separation plant, is used to stabilise crude oil from the North Sea Forties Field as well as process and treat natural gas liquids from the St Fergus gas terminals.

Welcoming the announcement Angus MacDonald MSP said:

"This is tremendous news for the town, particularly at the current time. Amex have had a presence in Grangemouth since the 70s, and this contract ensures their continued presence in the town for the foreseeable future".

AMEC said this latest upgrade will allow the facility to process unstabilised crude oil, which has a high gas to oil ratio, to meet the requirements of BP's customers.

The BP-owned terminal currently has a processing capacity of more than one million barrels of oil per day, or around 40 per cent of the UK's total oil production.

Dave Winskill, AMEC's asset support operations director, said: "We are very pleased to work with BP on this strategically important project which further confirms our capabilities in the mid and downstream oil and gas sector.

"Our long-term and sustained delivery, which we carry out on time, to budget and safely no matter how complex the task, has been recognised by BP in this award."
