New jobs in Grangemouth as Asda announces replacement depot
New jobs are expected in Grangemouth after Asda announced plans to replace its depot in the town.
The new building is part of a £500million investment for the store, which will see it opening 25 new shops and depots across the UK.
The refurbishment to the depot in Westmains Industrial Estate will increase capacity for delivery of groceries to stores in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
A spokeswoman for Asda told s1grangemouth that the new depot will bring new prospects for existing staff, but could not confirm how many jobs would be created.
The spokeswoman said: “The building is being replaced to help expand our capacity.
“The people that work there will just move into the new facility.
“The plans are that it will actually increase employment opportunities.”
Andy Clarke, President and CEO of Asda said: “I look forward to seeing these new stores and depots open for business and welcoming new colleagues and customers to our team.”
“I am delighted to be able to start 2012 on such a positive note, doing what we do best – creating new jobs, working with new communities and bringing Asda’s low prices to families who need the value we can bring.”
